Home sweet home! We’ve just gotten back from our trip to Japan and China (lots to tell you about!). It was a whirlwind and before we knew it, we were catching our connection to Toronto when we realized we were no longer on holiday. I have so much to share with you, obviously all food-related, but for now, I’m bouncing between detox-eating and intense food cravings. My food cravings you ask? Mexican food – I have a serious itch for it right now. Including this tangy, sweet and spicy strawberry and passion fruit guacamole!
This tropical guacamole is loaded with strawberries, mango and passion fruit and is seriously the BEST guacamole I’ve had in a LONG time. I’m not being biased I swear! I know it sounds weird – fruit in guacamole – but you need to trust me on this! I haven’t steered you wrong before, so I promise that I won’t now. It’s the perfect combination of sweet and savory, creamy and refreshing and slightly tart.
To me, this guacamole has the ultimate combination of flavours. Tangy fruit, slightly sweet and mixed with refreshing cilantro and jalapeno for a kick. The guacamole is slightly salty, creamy and incredibly flavourful before being topped with the fruit salsa. I still like to keep the avocado slightly chunky, because I love those big bites of avocado with a chip, it’s so satisfying.
- 2 ripe avocados, halved, seeded and peeled
- 1 tsp cumin
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- ¼ cup diced red onion
Strawberry Passion Fruit Salsa:
- 1 cup diced strawberry
- pulp of 1 passion fruit
- ½ cup diced mango
- ¼ cup finely chopped cilantro
- 2 tbsp chopped jalapeno
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- For the guacamole, add the peeled avocado to a large bowl. Add the cumin, salt and lime juice and mash with a fork to keep it slightly chunky. Stir in the red onion.
- Mix together the ingredients for the salsa. Add half of the salsa mixture to the guacamole and stir until combined. Place in a serving bowl and top with remaining salsa. Serve with nacho chips and extra lime wedges.
